Through a collaboration with Trame and Art Blocks, Nada Debs had the opportunity to work closely with Dutch Creative Coder Anna Lucia. Together, we developed a custom algorithm by exploring both the constraints and possibilities of the craft. Drawing inspiration from the proportions and layout logic of traditional backgammon boards, the algorithm generates patterns that evolve beyond conventional geometry. These designs take on a life of their own, enabling users to customize both the patterns and layouts of their boards in unique and unexpected ways.
This system demonstrates how technology can be harnessed as a powerful tool for iteration, experimentation, and creative expression, extending the notion of play from physical craft to digital creation.
Nada Debs is a Lebanese designer living and working in Beirut. Her work spans scale and discipline: from product and furniture design to one-off commissions across craft, art, fashion and interiors. What ties her work together is her ability to distil culture and craftsmanship to create pieces of emotional resonance. Nada grew up in Japan, studied design at the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States and has spent significant periods of time living and travelling the world, finding connections between different cultures. There is something of each of her experiences in all of her work. In essence, she captures the power of the human hand to tell stories that touch the heart. She calls her approach: handmade and heartmade.
TRAME is a gallery and creative design studio creating unique objects that bridge the digital and physical worlds by pairing time-honored craft with innovative technology from Art Blocks. Collaborating with algorithmic artists, product designers, and artisans, TRAME transforms code into material form, advancing contemporary design through a dialogue between tradition and innovation.
Working across disciplines, TRAME draws on a global network of creative technologists and craftspeople to translate code into material form—whether in glass, textile, or wood—through bespoke commissions, design development, and brand partnerships. Each project honors cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.
TRAME’s creative design studio functions as a platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue and experimentation. Through curated exhibitions, ongoing series, and commissioned collaborations, we explore how ancestral knowledge and algorithmic tools can shape the future of material culture. The limited-edition works under the TRAME brand serve as a showcase for a new design language rooted in memory, shaped by code, and refined through craft.
Anna Lucia, is a Dutch artist and engineer, and currently works and lives in Berlin. Ranging from browser-based animation, generative systems on the block-chain, textile works, and tattoos, Anna Lucia's practice explores the relationship between traditional craft and algorithmic systems. Her mediums include computer code and textile, and always integrates randomness, establishes a mediumistic dialogue between the artist and the computer.
